The
Board of Education has an obligation to require that the students of this
district be present in school to receive an education.
This policy is for the benefit of the students, their parents, and the
community at large.
Student
participation in all regularly scheduled classroom-learning activities in each
area of study is essential in order for each student to receive the maximum
benefits of a thorough educational program.
The entire process of education requires regular continuity of
instruction, classroom participation, learning experiences and study.
The regular contact of students with one another in the classroom and
their participation in a well-planned instructional activity, under the
tutelage of a competent teacher, are vital to this purpose.
Therefore,
we cannot condone, excuse, or encourage any absence or tardiness by students.
Students who miss class for any reason must complete the missed
assignments. The Board, however, recognizes that the schools are run for
the benefit of the pupils and every effort shall be made, therefore, to
identify the habitual truant, investigate the cause(s) of the behavior, and
consider modification of his/her educational program to meet the particular
needs and interests of the student.
