Watch Our Garden Grow
Welcome to the Bayview Garden!!
History: During the summer of 2012, the Wellness Committee suggested building a school garden. The goal was to provide students the opportunity to learn about the produce they eat and in turn, allow them to grow their own and incorporate more and varied produce into their diets. After some research, two grants were applied for. In May, Bayview was notified that we were awarded a $2000 garden grant from the Whole Kids Foundation, a educational foundation of the Whole Foods Corporation. A Garden Committee reviewed a plan and sought additional donations. The garden installation started in July 2013 and was completed August. Our dedication ceremony was in October.
Thanks to our community partners for their donation: Whole Foods Corporation, Clayton Block, Capelli's Landscaping, Potters Lawn and Garden, Molzons, John Paul Deickmann, and hard working Bayview parents.
A Work In Progress
The garden was a great success this year. Summer produce was distributed to about 15 of our Bayview families. Students continued to harvest tomatoes, squash and peppers into September-October. Thanks to everyone who has helped make the garden such a success. We are in the planning stage for Fall planting. Parents are welcome to volunteer on the garden committee.
