Student Safety
Bicycle HelmetsThe law states that any child under the age of 14 must wear a helmet while riding a bicycle. Students may not ride a bike to school without a helmet. We must protect our children even when they don’t want us to! Drop Off/Crossing Safety Last year a tragedy was narrowly averted as a student being dropped off in the morning was very nearly hit by a car pulling away from the curb. After meeting with the District’s safety officer it was determined that the best and safest course action would be to designate the curb on the side driveway a fire lane and drop off area only. This means that cars may not park or stop for extended periods in this area. I am urging all parents to be extremely cautious and considerate of others when you drop off and pick up your children from school. Additionally, the school crossing guard supervisor, Dominick Donatelli, has written to request that all parents and students use the crossing guards when crossing the streets during school hours. Some parents are crossing their children in middle of the street and disregarding the crossing guard. This has become a dangerous situation, thus Mr. Donatelli is requesting your assistance in correcting this problem. |
