Homework-Homework is collected each morning, checked and returned
to students. Students are rewarded for
completing homework assignments by adding a sticker to their homework
chart. Students must write down
assignments each day. Students should
have a homework folder to keep assignments and notes to go to and from school.
2.
Reading- We read a story a week.
Vocabulary is introduced and the story is read and discussed with the
whole class and then in small groups.
It is also sent home for you to read with your child. There is a comprehension test on
Wednesdays. On Thursdays I meet with
students in small groups to read leveled readers while the rest of the class
works in centers. On Fridays we meet
with our “Reading Buddies” in fourth grade.
3.
Math- We have begun our year with “Investigations”. In this math program the students are
introduced to concepts with a more “hands-on” approach. Students play games and try to solve
problems by investigating methods that makes sense to them. There are a few short “tests” in which
students answer one or two problems and explain how they got their answer,
however, much of their grade is through observation. We should finish Investigations by mid November and then we will
begin the Scott Foresman math series.
