Call to Order At 7:30 p.m., the meeting was called to

8. CALL OF ANNUAL SCHOOL ELECTION
APRIL 19, 2005
RESOLVED by the Board of Education of the Township of Middletown, in the County of Monmouth, as follows:
1) The annual election of the legal voters of this school district shall be held on Tuesday, April 19, 2005 at
4:00 oclock p.m. Polls will remain open until 9:00 oclock p.m. or as long as may be necessary to permit all the legal voters then present to vote and to cast their ballots.
2) The rate of pay for election workers shall be $14.29 per hour including one-half hour before the polls open
and one-half hour after the polls close for workers to prepare for and complete their work.
The Board accepted the above Resolution.

C. Report of the Superintendent
1. Approval of Resolution (School Boards Month)
WHEREAS, the New Jersey School Boards Association and the National School Boards Association have
declared January 2005 to be School Board Recognition Month, a time that all residents might acknowledge
the contributions made by our local school board members; and
WHEREAS, the Middletown Township Board of Education is one of more than 600 local school boards in
New Jersey that sets policies and oversees operations for public school districts; and
WHEREAS, the Middletown Township Board of Education embraces the goal of high-quality education for
all New Jersey public school students; and
WHEREAS, New Jerseys local school boards help determine community goals for the education of more
than 1.4 million children in Pre-Kindergarten through 12th grade; and
WHEREAS, New Jerseys 4,800 local school board members, who receive no remuneration for their services,
act as advocates for public school students as they work with administrators, teachers and parents for the
betterment of public education; and
WHEREAS, school boards strive to provide the resources necessary to meet the needs of all students, including
those with special needs; and
WHEREAS, boards of education provide accountability to the public; they communicate the needs of the school
district to the public; and they convey to school administrators the publics expectations for the schools; and
WHEREAS, New Jersey can take pride in its schools, which rank among the nations best in indicators such
as high school graduation rates, class size, college entrance exam participation, and Advanced Placement
offerings and test scores. Now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, that the Middletown Township Board of Education, does hereby recognize the services of local
school board members throughout New Jersey as we join communities statewide in observing January 2005
as School Board Recognition Month; and be it further
RESOLVED, that the Middletown Township Board of Education urges all New Jersey citizens to work with
their local boards of education and public school staffs toward the improvement of our childrens education.

11. BOARD COMMITTEE REPORTS
Mrs. Cavalier (Curriculum) stated that individual ad hoc committees will be reporting to the Curriculum Committee
at next months meeting. She also noted that core selection guidebooks have been distributed to high school students and described Saturday Academics which is a program to help students prepare for SATs and HSPAs. Mrs. Cavalier stated that other districts have been contacted regarding staff development presenter swapping. Mrs.
Diorio (Technology) stated that the committee has started the budget review process by prioritizing various items and are awaiting return of surveys sent to computer teachers. She also described a pilot program, which is a discussion board on the internet for two fifth grade classes to discuss a novel. Mrs. Walsh (Legislative) gave an update on S-1701, and noted that this district has been selected to host a Monmouth County School Boards Association forum on school funding on March 3, 2005, between 7:00 and 9:00 p.m. Mrs. Minnuies (Facilities) discussed the Boards high school tours. Mrs. Minnuies also noted Mr. Lucarellis (Hill International) recommendation that the H.S. North bubble be closed during this summer due to construction. Mrs. Cavalier suggested that the Facilities Committee look into lighting in the H.S. North parking lot. Dr. Witmer stated that the Paraprofessional Manual is now in its final draft form and should be on the next agenda for approval.
