8. BOARD COMMITTEE REPORTS
Mrs. Diorio (Facilities) noted the bid has been awarded tonight for the second phase of High School North athletic fields. She stated the referendum work at H.S. North is scheduled to be completed August 1st, the Ocean Avenue POD work and the
Bayview rooftop air conditioning work are on schedule. Mrs. Diorio also stated that soccer will be played on two upper field areas at H.S. North in the fall. She noted that the committee has requested that proposals be sought from grass management companies for the H.S. North field and that the H.S. South field stadium project is ongoing with punchlist items still to be completed to the districts satisfaction. Mrs. Diorio stated that a letter has been sent to IC Improvements giving them a final deadline of July 31st to finish the punchlist items. Mrs. Self (Finance) commended the business office on the low bids for the technology equipment lease and low costs for transportation. Mrs. Caminiti stated the co-curriculum schedule is still not
available. Mrs. Stallmeyer (Curriculum) stated that training for middle school math is almost completed, the summer reading program met with 80 students in grade one, and basic skills camp is about to begin for grades 5 and 7. She also stated that the committee will be meeting shortly to review and evaluate the reading and math programs and will be reviewing the work of the ad hoc committee. Mrs. Stallmeyer noted that work is being done on the freshman orientation program at both North and South, and that a second presentation on Strategic Planning will be made at the August workshop meeting by the State Department of Education. Mrs. Gevarter (Personnel) stated the committee will be meeting shortly to review all current procedures for hiring and for notification, noting the meeting can be sunshined for the full Board to attend. The consensus of the Board was that they would all like to be included. Mr. Ryan (Technology) discussed the very favorable lease rates on the laptop computers for the middle schools, and the district could, therefore, upgrade the computer labs at Thompson and Thorne (Bayshores is newer).
