September 4, 2008 Dear Parents/Guardians: It is with great enthusiasm that I welcome you back to a new year at Fairview Elementary School. Although the summer months passed quickly, I hope that you and your family were able to spend some quality time together and enjoyed the wonderful weather we experienced. The arrival of September brings books, backpacks, and new classroom routines. Nothing compares to the excitement that accompanies a new school year. We look forward to providing your children with a safe and nurturing educational environment, and the skills necessary to be successful this year and throughout their academic career. There have been several staff changes over the summer. I would like to take this opportunity to welcome Fairview’s new staff members: Patrice Hughes – Second Grade Stacey Osborne – Co-Teacher Lindsey Montgomery – Co-Teacher Barbara Zielinski – Reading Specialist Kaitlin Cole – Spanish Bill LaFalce – Speech Therapist Bernice Nightingale – Third Grade (Welcome Back!) We are very fortunate to have these dynamic educators at Fairview Elementary School! As always, we will continue to set high expectations for our students, and we will work cooperatively to ensure their success. Instruction will incorporate student-centered activities that encourage exploration and discovery. The children will be given the opportunity to develop their problem-based thinking skills regularly. Although academics will be our primary focus, social and behavioral growth will also be addressed. A well-rounded education helps to create a love of learning, and ultimately improves school climate and culture. I am looking forward to working with you as we continue to develop the wonderful community we have at Fairview. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns you may have. Welcome back! Sincerely, Matthew Kirkpatrick
