Harmony School, built in 1961, is a K-5 school with a current enrollment of over five hundred students. We offer a comprehensive academic program that includes Multi-Age, Kindergarten, regular Education and special Education classes. Harmony is one of the largest of the twelve elementary schools in the Middletown Township school district.
Our staff believes that our mission is to have each child develop a strong self-image, learn to respect others, and become independent thinkers. We believe that every child can and should excel in school. Harmony’s philosophy is summed up through this quote from Donald O. Clifton: “Our greatest contribution is to be sure there is a teacher in every classroom who cares that every student every day learns and grows and feels like a real human being.”
Our school is committed to academic excellence, respect for lifetime learning, the value of individual effort, and the partnership of parents and teachers. There is no tolerance for bullying, biased or violent behaviors at Harmony School.
All students in grades 1-5 will receive instruction in art, music, physical education, health, computer lab, and Spanish. Academically, the district is incorporating the IDEAL and LEADS models to create a Literacy bloc which allows us to utilize an interdisciplinary approach to language arts and social studies. We shall continue the Lucy Calkin’s Writer’s Workshop strategies adopted last year to assist us in standardizing and elevating our approach to writing across the curriculum. You will be hearing much more on this at the Back-To-School Nights and PTO meetings. You can find a concise explanation of both strategies on the district website at www.middletownk12.org. You can access Harmony’s website through www.middletownk12.org /harmony for specific information about our school.
Harmony School enjoys an exemplary reputation for close cooperation between parents and staff. Our education excellence relies on your providing the follow-up to the academic lesson through monitoring homework, providing an area and schedule for homework, engaging in educational family experiences and reading to your children. Maintaining a harmonious relationship allows us to better educate the whole child.
