Counselor’s Corner
Dear Parents,
As the new school year gets underway, the teachers are doing everything possible to ensure a happy and successful year for your children. At “Back to School” night, you were given the opportunity to see and hear, first hand, what will be expected of your child this year to help make this possible.
As parents, there is so much you can do to support the learning process at home to help your child meet with success in school.
This year the guidance counselors have begun to implement a new program called “Project Wisdom” in each elementary school that helps the students work on making “good choices”. Our theme for September is “Success in School”. You can help support this effort by taking some time to talk with your children about the many ways they can be successful in school by making “good choices” such as:
v
A healthy breakfastv
A quiet place to do homeworkv A scheduled time for homework (before other activities)
v Backpack packed up the night before (organization is so important)
v
Having a healthy snack/lunch they enjoy & know they will eatv Getting a good night sleep
v Involved in fun extracurricular activities after school (but not over scheduled)
v Encourage them to do their best
When we all work together, great things can happen! I would also like you to know that I will be at New Monmouth School on Monday & Friday all day and alternating Wednesdays this year. I can be reached at extension 6658.
Please be sure to look for some helpful tips being sent home each month from Home & School Connection in addition to helpful information on such topics as homework help, keeping children safe, tips on bullying and much more!
Looking forward to a great school year!
Sincerely,
Mrs.
Roberts
