Preparing for the Flu (any flu) as recommended by the CDC 2009-2010
Steps the school
district are taking:
q
Sanitizing
of the entire school nightly with a bleach solution that kills most
viruses and germs on contact. Special care will be taken to areas that
have frequent hand contact.
q
Respiratory etiquette education will be reviewed with students as to
covering coughs and sneezes.
q
Proper
hand washing education will be reviewed with students.
q
Each
elementary classroom will have an alcohol-based hand cleaner available.
Sanitizers will be available in the middle and high schools in the
cafeteria as well.
q
Any child
exhibiting any flu-like symptom will be sent home from school.
q
Monitoring
of illness outbreak will be reported to the local health department who
will determine school closings.
q
The state
health department H1N1 vaccination program will be available to all
students and teachers at no charge. Vaccines are to be released in
October. This may be a single or dual vaccination program. Further
information will be sent home to you.
Steps a parent/guardian
can take:
q
Be aware
of flu-like symptoms:
o
Fever, cough,
sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, body aches, headache, fatigue,
diarrhea and vomiting.
q
Keep your
child out of school for at least 24 hours after symptoms subside without
any fever reducing medicine.
q
When
notifying your school of your student’s absence please leave the
symptoms of the illness including temperature.
q
Be a good
role model for hygiene practices such as hand washing and covering
mouth.
q
Feel free
to send your children in to school with their own personal size bottle
of hand sanitizer.
