MHS North Team Concept
The following is a compilation of what we, the coaching staff, feel is the foundation of our program. They are not just a list or rules, but rather the core philosophy on which our program is built. They are in no particular order.
1. When one North player runs, either on offense or defense, all players run. We don’t take breaks.
2. Keep your discipline and get a result; know the score, time, team objective, and how you fit into it.
3. Know your role and your position. You should also know every players role on the field, so that you better understand how we play. You may be called upon to play anywhere, at any time, so be prepared.
4. You must earn the right to wear a North jersey; you cannot play until you complete what is asked of you in preseason camp.
5. Loyalty, there is no substitute for it and no greater quality to have. Loyalty to your family, the team, your teammates, coaches, and High School North. If you are not getting the playing time you want during the season, stay positive and loyal to the team. I don’t expect you to be happy about not playing, but I will demand you stay loyal and keep the team goals first. Don’t stand for your teammate complaining to you. This is the fastest way to destroy your team. If you are not happy, seek out your captain and talk to her or one of the other senior players. You are always welcome and encouraged to talk to the coaching staff members. Your coach is the one who makes the final decision on the line-up. You are responsible for your own happiness. So, if you are not happy, go to the source and discuss your feelings.
6. You must be committed to sacrifice yourself and your ego for the good of the team.
7. A MHS North player: a hard-working, fit, technical, tough, fast, uncompromising, daring, loyal, and know-how-to win competitor. NORTH REPUTATION!
8. No excuses accepted, none given. GET IT DONE!
9. You must attend all team functions on time. No studying, meeting teachers, or physical rehabilitation during that time. Should something come up, you must speak with your coach immediately.
10. You get outfitted in North gear. This is not your right; it is something you must earn. If you don’t respect it, it will be taken away.
11. Do not steal from your teammates or your team. If you are found to be stealing, you will be suspended immediately and indefinitely.
12. There is no hazing of freshman; there is no class system in this program. If you are caught going behind team guidelines you will be suspended from the team. You don’t get respect because you are older. You gain respect by training and playing hard and also by setting an example in how you carry yourself on and off the field. Be a true professional at all times.
13. This is soccer season, not party season. Drinking and drug use are completely prohibited. If you are caught at any time doing such, you will be suspended from the team immediately and indefinitely. No exceptions.
14. Bring your shin guards to practice everyday and come to practice prepared to work hard and tackle. We want you to compete in practice, but remember that you are tackling a teammate. So, no foolish challenges.
15. We expect mature and committed players who are: under control on and off the field, positive, passionate, eager to work, eager to learn, and eager to be part of something great, NORTH SOCCER.
