PLAYER’S GUIDE/CODE OF CONDUCT

This guide is intended to present a comprehensive list of expectations that the coaching staff has regarding player’s conduct as a Middletown North soccer player in and out of season (although it is assumed that players are selected partly because they are capable of making mature decisions in such a way that the individual, the team, and the school continue to maintain an image of professionalism and excellence).

ALL PLAYERS:

1.   Playing time – Playing time is NOT guaranteed at the varsity level nor is it subject for debate by players or parents.  Junior varsity and freshman players will each be given the opportunity to play in their respective games but playing time does not have to be equal for each player.  A player’s amount of playing time will be determined according to position(s) played, participation in practices, general attitude, work ethic, and skill level as well as any other factors that the team’s coach feels should be taken in to consideration.

2.   Practice times – You will be prompt to all sessions!  If practice starts at 3:00pm, that is the time you are to be on the field and ready to go.  Get treatments and taping early enough to allow you to be on time.

3.   If you are going to be late for practice, or even miss it, you must contact your coach personally well in advance.  You should not use practice times to study or to meet with a teacher, unless you get prior permission from your coach.

4.   Report all injuries to the trainer and your coach.  If you are hurt, it is your responsibility to get to the training room for rehabilitation.  You will not get rehabilitation during practice times.  During practice you must be on the field.

5.   For all away games, you are required to be at the departure point at the appointed time.  Your late arrival could forfeit your participation on the trip.

6.   While on away trips, you must always stay and travel with the team.  Exemption may be granted only by prior permission of your coach.

7.   You are expected to act in a courteous, respectful manner when traveling to other schools.  You represent your team and your school at all times.

8.   All players are expected to participate in all off-field activities such as fundraising events, community service events, and awards banquets.  Girl’s soccer is a program and extends beyond the field.

9.   Academics and classroom instruction take precedence over soccer.  Extra-curricular activities are to be considered a privilege to participate in.  Should your academics or behavior in school become an issue, it will have a direct impact on your involvement with the program.

10. We expect you to have a mature, intelligent, and cooperative attitude towards the press, opponents, referees, coaches, and anyone involved with the school.

ACADEMICS:

  1. YOU WILL NOT CUT CLASSES!  You are here to get an education.  As we approach the end of the season and find ourselves making longer distance trips, you will be missing some valuable class time.  It is your responsibility to make-up any missed work or assignments.
  2. Players’ class performance will be monitored.  Any player not doing her job in the classroom is in jeopardy of losing her job on the team.
  3. Any students in need of academic assistance (extra help, tutors, etc.) must not wait to do so.  Time is urgent and any needs must be relayed ASAP.  Don’t let any potential conflicts or problems fester.  Address them early.
  4. High School North and the Middletown School District have academic standards that student-athletes must maintain.  Players who do not maintain the status quo will be dealt with in an appropriate manner.

MISCELLANEOUS:

  1. Even if you are not dressing for a home or away game, you are expected to arrive at the same time as the players suiting up for the game.  You will be responsible for assisting the coaching staff and the team with game day operations.
  2. You are responsible for maintaining a high standard of fitness all during the academic year and throughout your athletic career here at North.  During your preseason camp, you will be participating in a number of tests to judge your fitness level so be prepared.
  3. Middletown High School North players WILL NOT use any non-prescription drugs during the season.  The school will be conducting random drug tests among teams during the season and the remainder of the school year.
  4. During competition, I expect you to be an intense, yet fair competitor.  You should strive to always play by the rules of the game.  Fighting or unsportsmanlike conduct before, during, or after a contest will not be tolerated and could result in suspension from the team.
