Child Development
(Grades 10-12)

The physical, mental, social, and psychological development of the child from conception through adolescence is explored in this class designed to introduce the student to parenting and child care skills.  One is taught as the student works toward improving skills component of the course is working in a well equipped through individually selected projects. child care skills.  One component of the course is working in a well-equipped child development laboratory, where the secondary student will plan and direct a variety of learning experiences for preschoolers from the community.  The opportunities in related careers are also explored and discussed.

Foods For Good Health
(Grade 12)
Recreational and career-minded chefs take notice!  This course provides the student with challenging cooking experiences, whether they are learning to prepare food for personal satisfaction or as a career.

Fashion and Home Decor Semester (1/2 year)       
(Grades 9 - 12)
Hands on experience with the sewing machine and over lock are provided in this course. Students work independently at their own level on a variety of individually selected projects.  Techniques for constructing home decor treatments will be taught. Based on individual interests students will be assigned projects including needle-craft, quilting, window treatments and other personal expressions in interior design.

Sewing and Fashion Semester (1/2 year)  
(Grades 9 - 12)
This course in sewing, fashion, and clothing construction builds skills and concepts in basic sewing construction techniques.  Students explore the "total look" allowing them to experiment with colors, seasons in clothing, grooming, and line and style.

Clothing Construction and Fashion
(Grades 10 - 12)
This is an intermediate sewing course based on the skills acquired in Fashion and Home Decor.  Pattern alteration is taught as the student works toward improving skills through individually selected projects.
Prior experience in sewing is recommended.

Life Management and Personal Finance
(Grades 11 & 12)
This course is designed to be a practical treatment of the needs and problems a young person faces when he or she lives away from home for the first time.  Included in this course are units of study in values clarification, goal setting, food and nutrition, clothing, financial management, interview and employment skills, consumerism and leisure time activities.  This course prepares students for self-reliance and success in managing their future.
