Overview of High School North

Middletown High School North is a four-year, comprehensive high school committed to providing rigor, relevance, and relationships within a challenging and supportive educational environment. The staff and administration are dedicated to an ongoing process of professional development and growth.  The objectives of the faculty are to improve student achievement and to enhance the instructional methods by which the curricula in all areas of study are delivered to the student body.  The primary goal of the school is to promote the passion for lifelong learning and achievement in all students, enabling them to become highly contributive members of an increasingly complex society.  It is our aim to enable our students to master problem-solving skills that will permit them to approach the workplace and/or institutions of higher education with confidence and maturity.

All contributors to the education of students at Middletown High School North embrace the philosophy that exposure to a wide range of educational experiences is both desirable and necessary in the twenty-first century. Our focus is to develop learners who are active and self-directed in their studies. The students can expect to be presented with the most current and innovative curricula aligned with content standards and objectives that will challenge them to perform at the highest level to which they are capable. The faculty pays particular attention to both individual learning styles and academic needs. All students receive preparation, beginning in their freshman year, to meet the graduation requirement of passing the statewide High School Proficiency Assessment (HSPA) in English and Mathematics.

The Counseling Department at High School North provides academic, career and social/ personal counseling. These support services provide the proper subject level placement in which students can meet the requirements for college entrance, explore other career options and develop decision-making skills. The counselors work closely with the parents and the assistant principals for curricula and discipline to promote a positive attitude, to require accountability and to foster achievement in academics, athletics and co-curricular and community service activities. An enthusiastic student body and team of advisers support the extensive extra-curricular/co-curricular and sports programs. Students may participate in a wide variety of opportunities in athletics, the arts, student government, clubs and service organizations.

All stakeholders have the opportunity to become partners in the education of the young people of Middletown. Teachers, counselors and administrators maintain frequent contact with parents and families. The PFA and Booster Club meet regularly to address the concerns of the parents, students, club advisors and coaches to support all endeavors undertaken at North. Co-curricular organizations support activities within the community with various clean-up projects for the local environment, matinee theater performances for senior citizens, and holiday performances for the community at large. The Child Development program encourages interaction between our students and the pre-schoolers.

Many of our graduates of High School North are now successful doctors, lawyers, teachers, business and community leaders who have supported our projects and programs. The administration and staff are proud of the reputation of Middletown North as a school with tradition, spirit, high academic expectations, and notable accomplishments. We openly welcome the alumni who return to North as members of the faculty.  The goal is to continue to promote success for all who teach, learn and support our vision, initiative and endeavors at High School North.
