(Contributors are noted ahead of each entry)

Michelle Goldfarb

  1. My sophomore classes are reading The Crucible and working on two PBL’s…
  2. Yesterday’s Crucible is a character journal.  It must be cleverly presented (as diaries were not acceptable Puritan behavior) and include entries that represent narrative, descriptive, persuasive and reflective writing.
  3. They are also working on Today’s Crucible, which is designed to show students how the concept of MOB MENTALITY that was the cause of the witch trials and the McCarthy Trials is still an issue in today’s society.  Students are working in groups and are responsible for teaching a lesson on Mob Mentality to the class.  Students are responsible for researching recent events in which mob mentality was a factor, creating a written lesson plan with objective, evaluation and activities.  They must use technology as one of their activities (power point etc.)  They must also present an activity plan to prevent mob mentality in the future.
  4. My junior classes are reading Inherit the Wind and creating character journals as well, using the different types of writing in their entries.  As part of this unit we are studying many different creation stories and students have created visual projects depicting their favorite creation story.  They should be up shortly after the break.  If you have a chance stop by and check them out.
