Dear Members of the North Community:

The Action Plan for High School North this
year will be to promote a positive ATTITUDE, to require
ACCOUNTABILITY and to focus on ACHIEVEMENT.
To maintain an educational climate conducive to teaching and learning,
we need to have rules, policies and procedures in place. Every
classroom and office will display the NORTH PRIDE rules
and behaviors that we expect everyone to follow. (insert the rules)
We welcomed our new teachers to Middletown
North on Tuesday, August 28th and the Freshmen on Wednesday, August
29th. During the Orientation Program, the Freshmen took a tour of the
building, met with the administrative team and some staff members,
attended a co-curricular fair conducted by upperclassmen, coaches and
advisors and were entertained by members of the Drama and Music
Departments. The Transition Project Peer Leaders and their advisors held
an introductory session with our new freshman students in small group
settings to explain their roles in helping them adjust to the high
school environment. They also listened to a presentation about a Leaders
Club that will be facilitated by the Community YMCA to provide
interested students with opportunities for leadership training, personal
growth, service to others and social development.
I encourage all parents/guardians to review
the summer mailing packet and return all forms regarding a
signature. The students are assessed on their summer readings, so
encourage your child to read the required material assigned to his/her
grade level. The handbook/planner was distributed to all students on
the first day back to school, Thursday, September 5th.
If your student has performed volunteer
service over the past year, he/she should apply for the Prudential
Spirit of Community Awards. Visit
www.prudential.com/spirit,
click on the "Apply Now" link and follow the on-screen instructions.
Call 877-525-8491 toll-free if you would prefer a paper application
form. The deadline is October 31, 2007.
To help promote fire prevention, the New
Jersey Division of Fire Safety and the New Jersey Fire Prevention and
Protection Association are conducting the 2007-2008 Fire Prevention
Poster Contest. The theme of this year's contest is: "Practice Your
Escape Plan." A complete personal computer system will be awarded to
each Division winner. At the secondary level there are three Divisions:
9th-12th Grades; Vocational/Technical Students; Special Education
9th-12th Grades. The winners will be selected from entries received
throughout the State. The Art teachers have all the contest rules and
information.
My
administrative team, staff and I look forward to meeting you and showing
you what your students will be learning, discovering and problem solving
this year.
