HSN Sound Devices / Hats Policies

Dear Students, Parents and Guardians:

In an effort to improve academic achievement and create a more positive school tone, the administrators and staff at High School North have decided that we must eliminate the distractions that make it difficult, if not impossible, for all students to achieve at the highest level possible.  To that end, we will be strictly enforcing the district policies regarding sound-producing devices that are found in the student handbook.

"ELECTRONIC DEVICES

Digital music players, radios, beepers, C/D or cassette players, laser devices, and electronic communication devices are not permitted during school hours. Students are not permitted to wear headphones or earpieces during school hours."

We will also be enforcing a similar policy regarding the wearing of hats indoors on school premises.  On the first occasion that a child displays a hat or sound-producing device operating or visible in school, it will be confiscated and returned to the child after the end of the school day. On the second breach of policy, the hat or sound-producing device will be confiscated and will only be returned to a parent or guardian. If there should be a  subsequent breach of policy the item will be confiscated and, again will only be returned to a parent or guardian who comes to pick it up in person.  At the end of the school year the unclaimed items will be donated to Middletown Helps Its Own.  Failure to turn over a hat or sound-producing device to a staff member will lead to immediate suspension as per the student handbook.

Sound producing devices include: Walkmans, IPods, MP3 Players, Headphones, and any other devices that produce sound.

Hats refer to all headwear including, but not limited to: scarves, hoods, bandanas, durags(do-rags, doo-rags), etc.

We encourage all parents and guardians to discuss with their children the importance of following all school rules including the policy outlined above.
