Plans for the week of Sept. 11-15, 2006

This week we will finish our Introductory Exercises and take a quiz about our classmates. We will read about modern Chinese-American culture and read two short stories by Asian-American women. We will practice using a compare and contrast chart.

Monday – Sept. 11, 2006

Review the “Plans for the Week.” Rearrange seats. Hand in late Summer Reading assignment. Present “Am I Lying?” and Peer Introduction to the class.

Tuesday – Sept. 12, 2006

Present “Am I Lying?” and Peer Introduction to the class. QUIZ: Fill in the seating chart for our class. Name each student in our class and one fact that you remember about him or her.

Homework: What else should your English teacher know about you? Write 1 paragraph and include anything left out of the peer introduction

 

Wednesday – Sept. 13, 2006

Fill in bookcards for and receive a copy of the text. Read the brief biography of Maxine Hong Kingston (Text p. 1043) and “The Chinese American Family” (Literature and Society, Text p.1050-1051.)

Homework: Take you textbook home.

 

Thursday – Sept. 14, 2006

Listen to and read along Maxine Hong Kingston’s short story excerpt, “The Girl Who Wouldn’t Talk” (Text p. 1045-1052.)

Homework: One page- Write about a time in elementary or middle school when a peer intimidated you, or you intimidated another kid.

 

 

Friday – Sept. 15, 2005

Read Amy Tan’s brief biography and the short story excerpt, “Rules of the Game” (Text p. 1109-1118.) Fill in the Compare and Contrast chart for the two stories we read this week. Discuss the stories and Asian-American culture. Add their titles to our Works Read Chart.
