1. Open Microsoft Publisher.
2. Under “Wizards” choose “Greeting Cards.”
3. Click on the choice for “Thank You” cards and select either a landscape format card or a portrait format card (depending upon the format of your photo).
4. Click “Start Wizard”
5. Click “Cancel.”
6. You will see the cover page for your greeting card and a navigation bar with numbers 1-4 for each of the other pages of your card.
7. Click the left mouse button one time on any image or text and go to the “Edit” column and select “cut” from the edit column menu list to remove that image/text from your card design. (You will be adding your own card elements.)
8. Go to the “Insert” column and select “Picture” and then “From File.”
9. The Insert Picture Dialog Box will appear.
a. Next to “Look In” choose the folder that contains the picture you want to use for the cover of your card.
b. Scroll down the list of images in that folder
c. Click on the image that you want to use.
d. Click “Insert”
e. The image will appear on the cover of your card.
10. If the image is too large or too small, click the left mouse button down on one of the small square “handles” that appear at the corners of your image, hold the mouse button down and “drag” outward or inward until your image fits the front of your card.
11. You can move the image into position by clicking the left mouse button down anywhere on your image, holding the button down and “dragging” the image into position.
12. Next, click on the “WordArt” icon. The WordArt icon is the little box with a WA that appears on the side toolbar. You should see a move tool arrow, a letter A (the text box tool), a grid (table frame tool), and then the WA – WordArt icon.
a. Click the left mouse button down anywhere on the front of your card and “drag” out a text box frame, then release the mouse button.
b. A new dialog box will appear with a blue bar that says Enter Your Text Here. Under the blue bar there will be a box that says “YOUR TEXT HERE”
c. Click your left mouse button down at the right side of YOUR TEXT HERE, hold the mouse button down and “drag” back across the text to highlight it.
d. Type in whatever you want the front of your greeting card to say.
e. Click “Update Display
f. At the top of your screen you will see some options for the shape of the Word Art text, the font, font size, font color, orientation, etc. Experiment with these settings until the text looks the way you want it to look.
g. Close the small Word Art Dialog Box by clicking on the “x” on the right-hand side of the blue bar that says “Enter Your Text Here.”
h. Exit Word Art by clicking on either the picture area or the margin area of the front of your card.
13. Next, go to the page navigation numbers at the bottom left side of your screen and click on the number 2. The inside sections of your greeting card will appear.
a. Click the left mouse button one time on any image or text and go to the “Edit” column and select “cut” from the edit column menu list to remove that image/text from your card design. (You will be adding your own card elements.)
b. Click on the text box icon on the side tool bar. (The text box icon is the one that looks like a capital “A”)
c. Click the left mouse button down on the part of the inside of your card where you would like your greeting text to appear, hold the mouse button down and “drag” out a text box and then release the left mouse button.
d. A blinking I cursor should appear inside the text box. You do not have to click on the cursor.
e. Go to the toolbar at the top of your screen and select the font qualities (font style, font size, alignment, color, etc.) that you wish to use and then begin to type whatever greeting message you want to appear inside your card.
f. When you are finished typing your message, click on any part of your greeting card outside the text box to close the box and make it’s outline and handle squares disappear.
g. If the text box is too large or too small, click the left mouse button down on one of the small square “handles” that appear at the corners of your text box, hold the mouse button down and “drag” outward or inward until the box is the correct size.
h. You can move the position of your text box by clicking the left mouse button down anywhere on the text box, holding the button down and “dragging” the it into position.
14. You can also add other photos or clip art to the inside of your card if you wish to do so.
15. When the inside of your card is complete you are ready to work on the back cover.
a. Once again, click the left mouse button one time on any image or text and go to the “Edit” column and select “cut” from the edit column menu list to remove that image/text from your card design.
b. Select the Text Box tool (The icon on the side toolbar that looks like a capital “A”)
c. Drag out a small text box. Type: “Greeting by:” and then type your full name.
d. You may also add a small clip art item to the back cover design to make it look more like commercially printed cards.
16. Print a minimum of three copies of your card, fold them so that they open correctly and submit them with your other night photography unit projects.
