Scanning Negatives Instructions
1. Turn on Film Scanner (switch is on back)
2. Open the top of the scanner, press the two “wing latches” to the sides to open the negative holder, put your negative in – shiny side up, close the negative holder.
3. Sign onto computer (use your own login name & password)
4. Go to Start > Programs > Photography > Adobe PhotoShop 5.5
5. Go to File > Import > Select TWAIN_32 Source
CyberView (film Scanner) > Select
6. Go to File > Import > TWAIN_32
7. When Scanner window opens … press “Preview”
8. Make sure that the scanner is set for …
Mode = Gray
Film type = Positive
9. Your photo will appear in the preview area
10. When your image is completely formed, click the Calculator icon
11. Scan settings:
Output size:
Change “pixels” to “inches”
First box: type in 7 inches ; (second box should change to 4.8 inches automatically)
For your very best images only:
Output size:
Change “pixels” to “inches”
First box: type in 10 inches ; (second box should change automatically
to the correct size)
12. Click OK (The calculator will set the scanner to the correct resolution for the print size you want)
13. Click “Scan”
14. When the word “cancel” changes to “exit” click on “exit”
15. The Scanner window will close and the PhotoShop window will appear.

Your picture will appear as a NEGATIVE
To make it a POSITIVE – hold the <Ctrl> key down and press the <I> key
1. Go to Image > Image Size
Under Print Size …
CHANGE RESOLUTION TO 300
Change width to 7 inches
(The height will change automatically when you change the width)
Click OK
2. You may have some areas around the edge that you don’t want to appear in the final picture… if so
Click on the “marquee” tool – the one that looks like a rectangle made out of dotted lines
Click on one corner of your picture and hold the mouse key down
“Drag” a rectangle around the part of your picture that you want to keep
Release the mouse button
Go to Image > Crop (Now only the part of your picture that was inside the rectangle will be showing)
3. You may want to improve the way your picture’s light & dark contrast looks, if so…
Go to Image > Adjust > Levels
A Levels box will appear with a histogram (looks like black “mountains”) that has three arrows under it.
Move the arrows until the picture looks the way you want it to look. (Hint: The left arrow controls the black tones, the middle arrow controls the gray tones, the right arrow controls white tones.)
When
the picture looks OK, write down the new levels numbers
Click OK
4. Now it is time to save your work
File > Save > My Documents > My Pictures >
(Click on the icon to create a new folder – name your new folder whatever your assignment is …)

File Name: Type in an appropriate file name for your picture
Save as : JPEG (click OK)
JPEG options > Quality = Maximum
Click OK
5. To print your picture: File > Print (make sure the printer is set to the one that says “5000”) > OK
