Requirement for Graduation
To be eligible for graduation from a Middletown High School, a student must
have earned 120 credits. Five credits are awarded for the successful completion
of each full year course. Subject required of all students are as follows:

Four years of English.

Four years of Physical Education /Health and Safety

Three years of Mathematics
-
Three years of Social Studies (one year of World History, two years of U.S.
History)
-
Three years of Science
-
One year of Fine, Visual and Performing Arts
-
One year of Career Education & Consumer, Family & Life Skills, &
Vo-Tech
-
One year of a World Language
-
All students must pass the current state HSPA assessment
Paricipation In Extracurricular Activities
Participation in extracurricular activities is a very important part of every
student's education. All colleges, as well as business organizations employing
high school graduates, are interested in the school and community activities in
which the students has participated. Participation in these activities becomes
an important part of each student's permanent record. It is recommended that
each student participate activity in a few well-chosen, meaningful activities.
To be eligible for extracurricular activities and athletics, a student must
pass thirty credits throughout his / her high school career beginning with
entrance into 9th grade.

Preparing for Advanced Education
In general, college admission requires 16 Carnegie units in academic subjects
(English, Social Studies, Mathematics, Science , and World Language) in grades
nine through twelve. A Carnegie unit is equal to a whole year's work in a 5
credit subject. Students planning to go to college or to other institutions of
higher learning must elect the subjects required by the institutions of their
choice.
Many colleges require work in English, social studies, science and mathematics
(Algebra and Geometry). Many colleges require at least two years of a world
language.
College entrance requirements vary from one college to the next. The
responsibility for meeting entrance requirements to the institution of the
student's choice rests with the student. All such information is clearly stated
in college catalogs, most of which may be used in the High School Guidance
Department Career Resource Center.
Middletown Township School District College Preparatory Course
The Middletown Township Board of Education feels that high shool students who
are seeking admission to college should experience academic preparation that
will be conducive towards success in future studies.
To motivate capable students to prepare themselves for college, the Board
recommentss the following program for college preparatory studies which
includes those required by state code.
Recommended for College Admission

Four years of English and Mathematics

Three or four years of Social Studies

At least two years of one World Language in high school
-
Three or four years of Science (two or three with labs)
-
Students will be enrolled in a 7 subject day
-
Honor students will be enrolled in advanced courses as qualified
Scholarships
Scholarship information is available through the Guidance Department,
announcements, bulletin boards, the Career Resource Center, and Counselors.
