Departmental Philosophy:

Family and Consumer Sciences consists of a variety of disciplines taught here at Middletown High School South. Its focus centers upon the development of human being as individuals, as family members, and as members of a community and society. The speed with which change is taking place in our culture, coupled with society's complexities, makes it necessary for young adults to study various aspects of one's way of life. Our culture has brought about many changes in the roles men and women play in home and in life. Family and Consumer Science courses offer a means of developing skills for effective participation in society. Classroom Experiences develop appreciation, attitudes, values, and skills necessary for effective personal, home and community living. They offer unlimited possibilities for creative expression and personal satisfaction, not only for skills in the art of living well.
