Students in Mrs. Durdack’s, Mr.
Lightbody’s, Mrs. Runyon’s, Mr.
Mackenzie’s, Mrs. Trieste’s, Ms. Easton’s
and Ms. Altz’s classes are learning
how to use print indexes
to find magazines in hard copy in our
periodical collection of current and archived subscriptions. This
is significant because:
- Students will need this skill in their to post-secondary education.
They may also use this skill in public
libraries any time that they
would like to see a copy of a print magazine or journal article.
- The skill is transferable to different
kinds of indexing. Magazines offer primary
documentation, one of NJ Core
Curriculum requirements
- Students can still conduct research when they can not get to an on-line computer.
- Online articles are generally text-only; printed periodicals have graphics,
illustrations, and photographs that enhance understanding of the topic.
- Newer issues offer information that is current, yet credible while
archived issues give the unique perspective of
what was actually reported about an
event/topic at the actual time it occurred.
