By the time you actually read this it will be the start of the holiday season, which always, of course, begins with our world famous “Granny’s Attic”. This is always the Saturday before Thanksgiving and this year on Saturday, November 21, 2009. You can do all of your holiday shopping right here at Thompson Middle School.

Recently, we had made some improvements at Thompson. These included pavers in front of the school, a new paint job in the gymnasium and we have the Thompson pond in the courtyard with live fish, beautiful bushes and even a small waterfall. Some students refer to it as the “lake at Thompson”.

We also purchased new velvet stage curtains to replace the twenty-year -old current curtains along with new speakers for our up in coming- first time ever - Broadway bound…student performance “Guys and Dolls”!

During the recent fall athletic program we had over three hundred students participate in athletics. Think about that…it is one-third of the entire school. I am grateful to all of our coaches at Thompson.

The holidays always bring out the best and two traditions continue here, as they have for years. We have a huge food drive right before Thanksgiving and it rivals a few grocery stores. Students need to develop a sense of giving as well as community.

Before we leave for winter break we also have a “new” toy drive and it is our version of “Toys R Us”. Our own “Middletown Helps Its Own” give all of these donations to our own community. Students and staff members make these annual drives a huge Thompson success and of course, a great Thompson tradition.

On behalf of all of us at Thompson we wish you a very happy and joyous holiday.

Kindest Regards,

Patrick C. Houston
