About
Village
Middletown
Village Elementary School is located on King’s Highway in the
heart of historic Middletown. This unique setting is
reflected in both the instructional program and cultural
activities of the school. A student-created
mural depicts the historical buildings in the
neighborhood.
Classes routinely participated in the history of the
community through history walks and guest speakers.
Students
at Middletown Village reflect a wide range of cultures,
abilities and interests.
In addition to classes from kindergarten to grade five,
we offer classes for students with language and learning
difficulties.
There are frequent opportunities for students of all
classes to come together for special project work and grade
level events.
These opportunities are designed and implemented by a
dedicated teaching staff and supported by curricula which
reflect current state and national standards. The teachers, many of
whom hold advanced degrees or extensive graduate level
credits, make an ongoing effort to remain current in
educational practices through professional reading, and
attendance at courses, seminars, and workshops. Several teachers and
the principal are also recipients of Middletown Education
Foundations grants supportive of their curriculum
innovations.
Another
characteristic of the school is the high level of
teacher/parent/community involvement. Volunteerism enhances
many aspects of the instructional program. From staffing the
school library, to assistance with preparation of classroom
materials, to organizing special programs such as “Its OK to
be Different”, parent volunteers provide ongoing support. The Parent Faculty
Association is an active force in the culture of the
school. Members
of this group play a vital role in providing orientation,
parent information, fund raising, home/school communications,
and school-wide projects.
All
the qualities of a vital learning organization are reflected
by the students, staff, and parents at Middletown Village
School. |
