    Tryout Procedures


    All parents must now register with familyid.com in order for the student to be placed on a sports rooster.

    Thompson Athletics Philosophy 
    • To hold participants to educational standards during each season.
    • To promote good sportsmanship and character education.
    • To promote physical and emotional development of the participants through athletic competition.
    • To promote good interschool relations.
    Our League 
    All teams are members of the Shore Conference of Middle Schools. Other members of the league include Bayshore, Thorne, Holmdel, Hazlet, Matawan, Neptune, Long Branch, Colts Neck and Ocean. 

    Teams will play anywhere from 10 to 16 games/meets depending on the season. 




    Boys and Girls Soccer and Field Hockey are open to 7th and 8th grade students. Coaches have meetings in early June to get ready for tryouts that will begin approximately on the 3rd day of the new school year.

    Boys and Girls Cross Country are both open to all students and will have an early June meeting for existing Thompson students. This is a non-cut sport. Elementary students can access the necessary forms from the school/district website. Completed forms should be delivered to Mrs. Stolte, the school nurse, in advance.



    Cheerleading is open to 7th and 8th grade students. There is a late September meeting as tryouts will begin in mid-October.

    Boys and Girls Basketball are each open to 7th and 8th grade students. Coaches have meetings in mid October for tryouts that may begin in  November.


    Wrestling tryouts/practice will begin in the late fall.



    Boys Baseball and Girls Softball are open to 7th and 8th grade students. The coaches meeting is in late January for tryouts that may begin on March 1st (weather permitting).

    Boys and Girls Track (new for 2016) is open to 6th, 7th and 8th grade students.  The coaches meeting is in late January with tryouts beginning in early March.
